Despite the assertion of the submitter of this tree, sadly the Richard at the top of this tree is not the notorious highwayman Dick Turpin, who lived some 50 years earlier and had no known offspring. Richard Turpin's death was just about the only thing in his shortish life that conformed to anyone's idea of how a highwayman was supposed to be. He smiled and swaggered, gave hatbands and other favours to the crowd, caused a delicious stir by presenting a gold ring to a married woman, and then threw himself off the hanging platform and "expired directly". In this last point he was lucky: most people kicked and spluttered for up to half an hour.
