Psychiatrists are being forced to face the evidence that SSRI withdrawal symptoms are indeed long lasting and damaging to physical and mental health. The descriptions written by patients who stopped taking these drugs tell the true story. SSRIs are a class of compounds typically used as antidepressants in the treatment of depression, anxiety disorders, and some personality disorders.
They leave you feeling drained after every conversation. They want your nonstop attention and the conversation is always about them. They may be charming, charismatic and the life-of-the-party personality.
Winter is starting to begin its long, slow goodbye across the Northern hemisphere except for the UK, which is currently being smothered by some particularly bitter Siberian winds. Static electricity is the buildup of electric charges on a material. An electrical charge can build up through frictional contact between two materials that are both insulators, like rubbing your hair against a balloon or your rubber-soled feet against a carpet. One object will lose electrons and have a positive charge, while the other will gain electrons and have a negative charge.
Here's how to inoculate ourselves against negative ones. Verified by Psychology Today. The Superhuman Mind.
Vertiginous epilepsy is infrequently the first symptom of a seizurecharacterized by a feeling of vertigo. When it occurs there is a sensation of rotation or movement that lasts for a few seconds before full seizure activity. While the specific causes of this disease are speculative there are several methods for diagnosis, the most important being the patient's recall of episodes.
To investigate the interplay between the L1 retrotransposition machinery and the host cell, we used co-immunoprecipitation in conjunction with liquid chromatography and tandem mass spectrometry to identify cellular proteins that interact with the L1 first open reading frame-encoded protein, ORF1p. Finally, molecular genetic and biochemical analyses indicate that ZAP reduces the accumulation of full-length L1 RNA and the L1-encoded proteins, yielding mechanistic insight about how ZAP may inhibit L1 retrotransposition. L1 retrotransposition is known to cause mutations; thus, it stands to reason that the host cell has evolved mechanisms to protect the cell from unabated retrotransposition. Here, we demonstrate that the zinc-finger antiviral protein ZAP inhibits the retrotransposition of human L1 and Alu retrotransposons, as well as related retrotransposons from mice and zebrafish.
In a society where the result of a severe bump on the head is often overlooked, misdiagnosed, and misunderstood, the word "concussion" should NOT be taken lightly. Every concussion is a traumatic brain injury and needs to be taken seriously -- as it is the leading cause of death for children and adults ages 1 to 44 in the United States and occurs every 13 seconds. With the movie "Concussion" staring Will Smith, we are finally starting to talk about it.
Brain zaps are commonly reported electrical shock sensations that are often experienced during discontinuation of antidepressant medications. Other common names for brain zaps include: brain shivers, electrical shocks, and brain shocks. People often describe them as feeling electrical current uncontrollably zapping their brains, which can be extremely frightening and uncomfortable.
