Every competition listed below produces one or more winners each and every year, as well as numerous honourable mentions and shortlisted writers. But in order to be selected, your first have to pick a competition to enter. Thus we present our list of excellent writing competitions based in the UK.

Young Adult authors take part as judges each year, who then read and select the winning stories. The top three writers in each age group receive fabulous prizes. This is an ever-growing, international contest.

Local councils are encouraged to have students enter the contest. Students may enter one or both styles of writing. Teachers should offer the opportunity to all students, but should respect any student who is not interested in participating.
CATE California Association of Teachers of English is a non-profit organization promoting communication, collaboration, and educational knowledge among all responsible for teaching English and the language arts. All California English teachers are encouraged to join. Any teacher may submit up to three student entries, which must be original work from the current school year. There is a November 1 deadline for electronic entries to the local councils, who will forward first place winners in each category to the December CATE Board of Directors meeting where statewide winners will be determined.
Technically, yes, but probably not in the way most folks expect. Some of the winning entries from have been published in five separate collections. These were done on a piece by piece basis, since WVW retains no rights to publication of the winning pieces, so even the collections do not contain ALL contest winners, but only a majority of them.
