The Asia Pacific Cultural Center, or APCC for short, serves the community in a variety of ways through offering cultural programs and classes that represent 47 different countries and cultures. The organization was formed as a nonprofit organization in by a small group of citizens with large vision. This small group included three generations of Americans from Asian and Pacific Island Heritage; their goal was to come together to honor and share their distinct history, artistry, social practices and business.

In the early s, a community coalition asked for a space for a pan-Asian Cultural Center and the Asian Library, expressing a desire for an artistic and cultural space in the Chinatown area of Oakland. Inas it began acquiring help from the city government and recognizing that Chinatown's composition had changed, the Center changed its name, broadening its aim to include all Asian cultures.
